Description
Up for auction is this genuine mid to late 19th century US Navy officers belt buckle plate. The interior of the two part Naval Belt buckle, this model was used from about 1850 to 1890, encompassing the Civil War and Indian Wars. The brass buckle features an American eagle on the front holding an anchor and shell in its claws with three cannon balls below this. It is surrounded by a wreath. It would have fit inside a second part wreath circle. No manufacturers marks on the tongued back, quite often indicating that it is an earlier piece, as the later ones were quite often marked by makers such as Horstmann. Measures about 2 1/2 inches X 2 inches (approximate sight measurements). In excellent condition with just expected minimal wear. Slight denting (this is extremely minor and only mentioned for complete accuracy!). Wonderful antique age patina! A great piece in nice shape offered with NO RESERVE!!Please see our other military items on eBay at this time!
