    Description

For auction is a grouping of Gettysburg Civil War relics I purchased from the collection of the late John Whalen, Jr.  Whalen was an avid relic hunter who metal detected around Gettysburg in the 1950s, 1960s and early 70s. Included with this group are all items pictured:  Confederate Beveled Edge Frame Buckle, 2 Cannon Friction Primers, 1 Canteen Spout Iron Pull Tab, and 1 COLT .36 Caliber Bullet Mold.  The Mold has 1 lead bullet inside. I'm not sure if that was added later or found that way but the mold does open and close so I'm guessing it was added for display purposes.
The Confederate Beveled Edge Frame Buckle is a superb and rare find.  It measures 50mm x 62mm. That size is not listed in the Mullinax Book, however that is common, there are dozens of recovered CS Frame Buckle sizes that were not listed in Mullinax.  I have carefully examined the buckle and what gives me great comfort is the consistency it has with other bona-fide CS Frame Buckles I've seen dug, where the Reverse (back side) shows the rough Granular surface from the original casting mold and the Face (front side) shows a smooth polished surface from being polished.
GOOD LUCK IN BIDDING, NO RESERVE!!!
