    Description

The Confederacy was short of everything except courage in the Civil War, and to outfit her troops daring blockade runners brought in British arms and equipment in exchange for gold and cotton. The Confederates imported Enfields by the thousands, in addition to "snake" belts, socket bayonets, and leather field gear, including white buff leather equipment sets for line infantry. Those accoutrements included the specially designed Pattern 1856/57 angled percussion cap pouch. This Confederate Civil War IMPORTED BRITISH BUFF LEATHER ENFIELD PERCUSSION CAP POUCH is in very good condition, with some scattered darkening, brownish soiling, and age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the pouch is in fine shape, with absolutely no rips, holes, tears, or other damage to the tough once white buff leather construction. Most interestingly, it boasts a fully functional brass stud closure front flap, sports the classic angled belt loop at the upper back, and exhibits fully intact stitching throughout. A fine example of a very rare, original Confederate Civil War IMPORTED BRITISH BUFF LEATHER ENFIELD PERCUSSION CAP POUCH. We have shown a photo of a very similar pouch featured in the excellent reference book "The English Connection", a copy of which we offer under a separate listing. We've also shown another photo from that classic work of Private William G. Howard of the 35th Georgia Infantry during the Civil War; he wears a very similar buff leather cap pouch at his chest.
